Public Construction and Property Management
Statsbygg is the Norwegian government's key advisor in construction and property affairs, building commissioner, property manager and property developer.
Statsbygg is a public sector administration company responsible to the Ministry of Government Administration, Reform and Church Affairs, Statsbygg provides appropriate, functional premises to public sector enterprises, as well as realising prevailing sociopolitical objectives in relation to architecture, governmental planning interests, preservation of heritage sites and the environment.

Property Management
Statsbygg manages approx. 2,7 million square metres of floor space, in Norway and abroad.
On behalf of the Norwegian government, Statsbygg owns 2,350 buildings distributed among 600 property complexes at home and abroad. Outside of Norway such buildings primarily comprise embassies and official residences. Within Norway the buildings range from the Government quarter, the Supreme Court, Courts of Appeal and District Courts, customs houses, museums, opera houses, prisons and open use cabins, for example. These are leased to public sector users. Statsbygg strives to ensure good management and maintenance of its properties.

Construction
As a building commissioner, Statsbygg plans, quality assures, budgets and follows up construction projects. However, the actual design and construction of buildings is implemented by independent architects, engineering companies and construction companies. Well over 90% of costs relating to new buildings derive from purchased services resulting from competitive tendering. At any given time, Statsbygg organises, plans and implements around 160 projects – both large and small – of which 20-30 major projects are completed every year.
In total Statsbygg’s annual building budget is approx. NOK 3,17 billion (2012).

Consultancy
Statsbygg offers consultancy and assistance in civil engineering and technical matters to ministries and other governmental organisations.
Statsbygg also cooperates with the public administration, and gives advice on assessing property needs, planning and acquiring property.
Development
Statsbygg also safeguards governmental interests in major property development projects. For example, Statsbygg played a major part in the development of the
Fornebu area (vacated main airport in the Oslo-area). See Sustainable Fornebu. From airport to sustainable community.
The objective is to create attractive areas, emphasising local interests, efficient use of resources and sound environmental solutions.
Organisation
Statsbygg has 845 employees, of which around one-half are construction personnel connected to properties. The head office is situated in Oslo and there are regional offices in Oslo, Porsgrunn, Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø..

BIM - a digital method for smarter buidling
Statsbygg has laid the foundations for better and more efficient building processes and the management of buildings by using and making BIM-technology suitable for the buidling industry.
